On Symbolism and Emotions

Symbols can be used to trigger our emotions. We learn those symbols while we grow and we develop our reaction to them as a reflex. A symbol can be anything. It is a pattern recognized by our brain. When we see little kittens we want to say how they are cute. When we read a quotation we usually agree with it, drain some motivation from it, and, hopefully, some experience.

In a company where I worked there was a ban for spreading "kitten messages". A "kitten message" is an e-mail message with attached slide show containing images, which are often kittens. As a rule, these "kitten messages" are supported with quotations.

Recently I received a "kitten message". I'm not keen on symbols, but this time I really liked two quotations. Here they are.

Never explain yourself to any one. Because the person who likes you doesn't need it, and the person who dislikes you won't believe it.
Don't let someone become a priority in your life, when you are just an option in their life.
