On Understanding
If there is understanding, there is love. If there is no understanding, there is only an endless stream of questions [citation needed]. We cannot be sure that we understand other people. All we can have is an interpretation based on our intuition. I always try to interpret positively.

however, interpretation is only the second step because it involves active reasoning.
the first thing being provoked by an action is some kind of spontaneous re-action. it is simply a feeling which can be more or less intense, depending on the action it was triggered by. and, more important, it is out of one's scope of control.
Good man you are, Romans. And yes, you must want to understand, and better positively.
But what if you understand terrible things about people? Is there love?
Then about being sure: you cannot be sure of anything. You create 'reality' and others try to do the same. You can create an assumption and consider it truth until time shows it is not truth.
Last point - why understanding? Why not let it be and no endless questions, just put a period.
